Relationships Education
We want all children to grow up healthy, happy, safe, and able to manage the challenges and opportunities of modern Britain. That is why it has become statutory for all primary age children to be taught Relationships Education.
The focus of Relationships Education at John Burns is teaching children about positive relationships with reference to family relationships, friendships and relationships with peers and other adults. Children are taught about the importance of positive relationships with peers and family members, how our behaviours can affect others and respecting similarities and differences alongside other aspects such as personal boundaries, resisting pressure and recognising privacy.
As a school, we have flexibility to deliver the content in a way that is age and developmentally appropriate and sensitive to the needs and religious background of all our pupils.
Relationships Education, taught within the PSHE curriculum, aims to give children essential skills for building positive, enjoyable, respectful and non-exploitative relationships and the skills to stay safe both online and offline.
