Reception – DAVIES Class
Welcome to Davies Class!
The Reception team this year consists of Miss Windess, Mrs Jackson and Miss Stephenson. We are delighted to be supporting Reception through their first year of schooling and feel that our engaging and playful approach to learning will be enjoyed by all
We follow the Foundation Stage Curriculum also known as the (EYFS), which highlights children learn through a balance of planned, purposeful play and adult led activities. There are seven areas of learning that children will be supported in this year, these being:
- communication and language
- physical development
- personal, social and emotional development
- literacy (this includes phonics sessions)
- understanding the world (people and places)
- expressive arts and design
The children’s interest are at the heart of all learning experiences and topics, therefore our planning and provision are guided by this. Our fantastic indoor and outside environment enables children to choose their own learning experiences. Woven throughout the day are our adult led activities where we come together for group learning such as phonics and maths. Story time is a firm favourite.
Our class is named after the brilliant author and illustrator, Benji Davies, who has written many beautiful picture books such as ‘The Storm Whale’, ‘Tad’ and ‘Grandad’s Island’. I hope the children will love them as much as we do.
I have a Second Class Honours Degree in Education Studies and have experience working with young children and adults in a range of different settings, such as Nurseries and further Educational settings. Before training to be a teacher, I worked as a Nursery Nurse in Derby. I then relocated to Brighton to do my PGCE where I was based in a Reception class. I am now delighted to be a Reception teacher at John Burns Primary School.
Mrs Jackson has worked in our Early Years department at John Burns Primary School for twelve years and Miss Stephenson for three years. Between them ,they have supported most of our current intake at John Burns Primary School in their first years of schooling. I think that is wonderful!
